Registration deadline for Enrichment Classes is Monday, January 4, 2016.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION before you register:

Payment for enrichment classes is due immediately upon registration. Enrichment/club class fees are NON-refundable. If a class is canceled due to weather or instructor illness, the class will be rescheduled during that trimester for a later date. If your student misses an Enrichment Class due to illness or family emergency, we are NOT able to refund any portion of your payment.

Families that qualify for the FREE lunch program are eligible for one free enrichment class (per class availability) per trimester. Any additional classes will be charged at the full price of the class.

Families that qualify for the REDUCED lunch program will be charged 10% of the cost of the enrichment class (for the first class). Any additional classes will be charged at the full price of the class.

Most clubs and classes require a minimum number of students for enrollment. If the class does not meet the minimum number of required students, you will be notified and get a FULL refund and/or can choose a different class. All classes have a limited number of spaces and scholarship spots available.

MONDAYS

"Fun”- damentals of Science! (Mad Science)

Have fun with this captivating assortment of Mad Science classes! Blend colors together, split up the rainbow, and see why lasers are so a-maze-ing. Hunt for hidden animals and minerals as we explore our earth and the animals that inhabit it. Learn the fundamentals of flight and build your very own glider. You will be a Top Gun in no time! Finally, transform the classroom into a crime lab to collect fingerprints & other clues to learn how science is used to solve real crimes!

Nutrition and Health with Marline

Does your child have an interest in health, exercise, nutrition, and food preparation? If so, NutriFit is the class to join! This semester LCS takes pleasure in announcing our new enrichment class, NutriFit! In this class, students will have an opportunity to learn all about healthy living! They will learn about self‐esteem and how to nurture the body, mind, and soul through healthy foods and exercise. This class will be a two‐part class in which students will learn fun stretches and exercises, yoga poses, and dance moves to encourage physical activity! The second part of class will be dedicated to nutrition. During this time, students will obtain an appreciation of healthy foods and snacks by learning quick and easy recipes that they can prepare at home! Students will also have an opportunity to prepare some of these easy recipes in class! They will prepare yummy snacks and make tasty juices and smoothies to share and sample with their friends in school! Lastly, students will also learn about others aspects of nutrition, like the food pyramid, food portions, and how healthy foods and exercise together keep our muscles, bones, and other parts of our body healthy!

Brixology (Mad Science-STEM Program)

•Using LEGO® bricks, build a different engineering-themed project in each class.

•Explore engineering fields including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering.

•Use critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem-solving to test and improve creations.

•Experience extended learning with a take home toy to reinforce each concept. 

So, You Think You Can Dance?

Catch on to the latest dance craze! Learn the basic techniques of dance and how to move to the beat! We promote a healthy life-style for kids by doing fun-physical activity, and teaches kids to express themselves through music and movement.  This is a performance-based class, which helps students to gain confidence and self-esteem.  Learn dance routines from your favorites like Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Pitbull, classics from the past and all of your favorite radio tunes! A performance in funky costumes will be given on the last day of class to show off your new moves!

 

WEDNESDAY

Lego Storytelling

Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm

Do your kids love Legos? Now they can use one of their favorite toys to tell their very own stories! We will help your children storyboard and photograph each scene in their story. The ideas will be theirs, the sets will be built by them, and we will help them operate the cameras to capture their stories in a visual and memorable format that will be yours to treasure. After all the scenes have been created, the kids will provide a narrative voice over and choose the music that best fits their movie. This class is the ultimate place to play with Legos and learn how to tell a story. All stories will be available to view and download online

Enchanted Children Adventures

Time:    3:30pm - 4:30pm
Dates:   01/13 to 03/16

Our journey begins with a trunk of dress-up. Next, we gather on the magical carpet and share who we are and what our magical powers will be. Children use their imagination to craft a fantastical world where dramatic play and improvised storytelling lead the way. It’s an on-going story, each class infused with art, kindness and wonder.

Drum Circle with Malcolm Moore

Time:    2:00pm - 3:30pm (1.5 hours)

Drum circles promote communication, social skills, and musicality. Like exercise, it can be therapeutic by utilizing hand/eye coordination, listening skills, & eye contact; especially for high energy students who may benefit from artistic group activity.

During Drum Circle, students will Discover your own rhythm first. ‐ From playing along with a recording to building up your confidence in expressing yourself musically, you can do a lot to demonstrate your love of music and inspire the circle. Don't be self‐ conscious and don't expect to "teach" anyone anything. Remember, its about helping people discover the rhythm that's already within them! 

Zip Zap Zop Improv with Maja
Time:    2:00pm - 3:00pm
Dates:   01/14 to 03/17
Cost:     $145 (10 Weeks)

This improv class allows students to use their imaginations while building strong friendships! Students will develop their unique comedic voices by engaging in active storytelling, movement, and improv exercises. Parents are welcome to join the fun and observe a showcase the last day of class.

Chess

Chess is back at LCS. We are devoted to promoting the merits of chess among children by using stories, dances, and catchy songs to make the game of chess exciting and easy to understand. Children participating in our program: Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills; Have better concentration and mental discipline; Gain confidence and have lots of FUN!!!  All students in chess club receive an exclusive Academic Chess workbook, prizes for good sportsmanship and participate in the “BIG TOURNAMENT” on the last day where all kids take home a prize! Beginner to advanced students welcome.  

Garden Stand with Jessica Jensen

Time:   7:30am-8:30am
Dates:  01/15 to 03/18
Cost:    $125 (10 week Class)

The Garden Stand enrichment class will be an official group of students who learn the basics behind farmers’ market-like operations including making decisions about what and when to harvest, how to harvest, how to share knowledge about our Larchmont Edible Schoolyard program and produce by preparing for, coordinating, and running The Garden Stand every other week. We will have a schedule to include a Garden Stand sale every-other-week. For example, during the first class will be our time to discuss and decide what to sell and how to educate our community. (Students must be available during Morning Sing to work THE STAND).

Projects:

  • -learning what and how to harvest according to what is in season and what is mature (ready to harvest)
  • -learning how to process the harvest to prepare for the sale
  • -learning about Garden-related topics and preparing simple-yet-effecting presentations to educate our community
  • -learning basic sales skills: customer relations, mental computing skills, public speaking, etc…
Minecraft Movies
Time:      3:30pm to 4:30pm
Dates:     01/15 to 03/18
Cost:       $135 (10 week Class)

Do you love Minecraft? Join this exciting class where kids will design a Minecraft world using Legos! First, they will create their own crazy Minecraft characters, or bring in your own Minecraft Lego mini-figures. Then students will utilize provided iPods to create their own Minecraft movie and become the voices for all the characters. Create monsters, creepers, Steve, or your own personal hero to tackle the incredible environment that you create… All student films will be available to view and download!!
